Bilgola covers two quite different places: the beach tucked into its valley, and the plateau up on the ridge. Beaches Hot Water is a free referral service. We connect you with licensed hot water plumbers who cover both Bilgola Beach and Bilgola Plateau. We are not plumbers ourselves, and the referral costs you nothing.
Down at the beach
Homes close to Bilgola Beach face the same salt air as the rest of the Northern Beaches coastline. External tanks, valves and heat pumps on this side can corrode faster than units on the plateau. Ask the plumber to place any new unit out of direct salt spray where the block allows, and to check the sacrificial anode around year five.
Many beach-side homes sit on steep, bushy slopes with stairs between the street and the house. That makes access part of the job, so send photos of the route as well as the unit.
Up on the plateau
On Bilgola Plateau, blocks are often larger and the salt exposure lighter, though plenty of homes still sit on sloping land. Larger family homes may have outgrown the system they were built with. If the hot water runs out at peak times, ask whether a bigger tank, continuous flow where gas is available, or a heat pump would suit better. Mains gas varies street by street, and the plumber confirms what is connected.
Bushland surrounds parts of the area, and some blocks may be bushfire-prone. If that applies to you, mention it, as it can affect where an external unit is placed.
Getting here
Bilgola sits on the winding road between Newport and Avalon. Plumbers coming from further south on the Beaches have a fair drive, so an early request gives the best chance of a same-day job. Same-day replacement is often possible for common sizes with a morning request and exact tank details.
Prices as a guide
Repairs run roughly $150 to $600 depending on the part. Electric storage like-for-like swaps run from around $800 to $2,500 installed. Gas storage and continuous flow sit around $1,200 to $3,500 installed. Heat pumps run around $3,000 to $6,000 installed before incentives, and federal STCs and the NSW Energy Savings Scheme can cut thousands off, with the installer quoting the net figure. Difficult access can add labour. The plumber's quote is the price that counts.
Frequently asked questions
Do beach and plateau homes need different systems?
Not necessarily, but placement differs. Beach-side units need more protection from salt, while plateau homes often have more room for a heat pump.
My tank is at the bottom of a long staircase. What do I send?
Photos of the stairs, the unit and its compliance plate, plus where a vehicle can park. That lets the plumber plan the carry and quote it properly.
How do I know if my tank is past repair?
Water leaking from the tank body means replacement. Tanks typically last 8 to 12 years, so an older tank with recurring faults is usually better replaced.
